Tom Hiddleston Talks About ‘Thor: Ragnarok’ Director Taika Waititi

Anticipation continues to grow as Thor: Ragnarok‘s release date looms closer. The third film in the Thor franchise will be directed by Oscar-nominated Taika Waititi, whose three feature films, Boy, What We Do In The Shadows, and Hunt For The Wilderpeople have been both critically acclaimed, and financially successful – with the last being the highest grossing film in New Zealand.

Waititi is known for making usually humorous films, which fans are expecting to see in ‘Thor: Ragnarok’. In a recent interview, Tom Hiddleston (who plays fan-favorite villain Loki) shared a few words on working with Waititi.

Collider: How was working with Taika Waititi on Thor: Ragnarok?

Hiddleston: It was fantastic! He’s a wonderful director. He’s very spirited and light-hearted.

Collider: Among the Marvel movies, Thor has always been a bit more serious. Is he bringing some of his humor to it?

Hiddleston: Yeah, as a director, you can’t help but leave a fingerprint of who you are on the film you make, and Taika is a very warm-hearted, generous spirit who loves to make people laugh. I think you’ll definitely see humor in Ragnarok.

During the initial announcement of the ‘Thor: Ragnarok’ in 2014, fans speculated that the film would be taking a darker and more serious tone than previous Marvel films. The announcement of Waititi directing the film came as a surprise to fans, with some worrying about the film. The director has poked some fun at these worries on Twitter.

Taika Waititi has stated he’ll be making a cameo appearance in the film, but it won’t the first time comic book fans have seen him on screen. Waititi made an appearance in DC Comic’s 2011 film Green Lantern, playing the role of Thomas Kalmaku, an engineer in the film. To give fans a tease for the film, Waititi filmed a short film entitled “Team Thor”, featuring Chris Hemsworth (Thor) and Mark Ruffalo (Hulk), who will both be appearing in ‘Thor: Ragnarok’, poking fun at their absence from the 2016 film Captain America: Civil War.

In ‘Thor: Ragnarok’, Thor (Chris Hemsworth) is expected to face multiple trials on his journey to save his home realm Asgard. This includes battling fellow-Avenger Hulk (Mark Ruffalo) in a gladiator match, protecting asgard from the mischievous Hela (Cate Blanchett), and teaming up with his brother Loki (Tom Hiddleston) and sorcerer Doctor Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch) to investigate the dissapearance of his father, Odin (Anthony Hopkins).

Thor: Ragnarok hits theatres on November 3, 2017.
